April 2015

This page is dedicated to the residents of the Rincon Country Mobile Home Park
who kindly give of their time to assist with activities and events for the benefit of
their fellow neighbors. Each month, we will be spotlighting two volunteers so you
can get to know them better. We hope you will enjoy learning more about their
backgrounds and what motivates them. We sat down with Kathy Beardsley and Patricia Lord recently and discussed the following:

RCMHP: Where did you live before coming to Rincon Country MHP?

Kathy: I lived on Stella. I lived there for 25 years with my sister, Pat Lord (I’ve been in Tucson 50+ years).

RCMHP: What made you decide to move into Rincon Country MHP?

Kathy: I needed air conditioning and I wanted a mobile. The house I was living in had a swamp cooler and was bad for allergies. I answered an ad in the paper as I didn’t know this place existed. So Pat, my sister, and I bought it.

RCMHP: What made you decide to volunteer?

Kathy: I love Bingo and when the previous person who ran Bingo was quitting, I volunteered to run Bingo.

RCMHP: Have you enjoyed your volunteer work?

Kathy: Oh yes. I like it a lot. I get to talk to people and get to know them on a personal level. Before I just knew people by sight so it’s been good to really get to know them.

RCMHP: What would you say to get others interested in volunteering?

Kathy: It can be rewarding if you put some effort into it. If you enjoy getting out and meeting people it’s something you might think about.

RCMHP: What do you like to do with your spare time when not busy volunteering?

Kathy: I crochet, read and watch TV.

RCMHP: Where did you live before coming to Rincon Country MHP?

Pat: I lived with my sister, Kathy Beardsley, on Stella. I came to Tucson from the White Mountains in 2003 to care for my father who had Alzheimer’s and also my daughter had just had a baby. So it was two-fold.

RCMHP: What made you decide to move into Rincon Country MHP?

Pat: Kathy and I owned a house together on Stella and when we sold it we moved to Rincon together.

RCMHP: What made you decide to volunteer?

Pat: They needed help with Bingo; plus I’d been volunteering in the park since 2008.

RCMHP: Have you enjoyed your volunteer work?

Pat: Yes. And I love playing Bingo too.

RCMHP: What would you say to get others interested in volunteering?

Pat: I don’t know. I just do it because I enjoy it. It’s fulfilling.

RCMHP: What do you like to do with your spare time when not busy volunteering?

Pat: I babysit. I run my grandchildren around. I enjoy crossword puzzles. And trying to keep myself healthy.
