May 2015

This page is dedicated to the residents of the Rincon Country Mobile Home Park
who kindly give of their time to assist with activities and events for the benefit of
their fellow neighbors. Each month, we will be spotlighting two volunteers so you
can get to know them better. We hope you will enjoy learning more about their
backgrounds and what motivates them. We sat down with Glenn Erwin and Mary Jane Barton recently and discussed the following:

RCMHP: Where did you live before coming to Rincon Country MHP?

Glenn: Davenport, Iowa.

RCMHP: What made you decide to move into Rincon Country MHP?

Glenn: My wife and I moved here to take care of our granddaughter, Casey. She’s the light of our lives.

RCMHP: What made you decide to volunteer with the garden club?

Glenn: They needed someone, and I like to garden. I also like to help people out who have never gardened.

RCMHP: Have you enjoyed your volunteer work?

Glenn: I don’t call it volunteering. I just enjoy working in the garden.

RCMHP: What would you say to get others interested in volunteering?

Glenn: Just do something in whatever area you enjoy. Then you don’t really feel like it’s a job. Don’t do something because you have to do it. Do it because you want to do it. Then you’ll enjoy it.

RCMHP: What do you like to do with your spare time when not busy volunteering?

Glenn: I like to spend time with my wife and my granddaughter. We like to take Casey to basketball games, and her keyboard lessons every week.

RCMHP: Would you like to add anything else?

Glenn: Just that I really enjoy the garden club. In regards to that, we hold meetings the second Thursday of every month. We would like to invite anyone who would like to come and join us.

RCMHP: Where did you live before coming to Rincon Country MHP?

Mary Jane: I’m originally from Newcastle, Pennsylvania, which is 50 miles from Pittsburgh and 20 miles from Youngstown. But my family and I moved to Tucson in 1959. We lived in several different areas in Tucson before moving into Rincon.

RCMHP: What made you decide to move into Rincon Country MHP?

Mary Jane: We were both retired. We drove cars for Hertz back and forth from Phoenix. We had a townhouse at the time and decided to move somewhere where we didn’t have so much upkeep.

RCMHP: What made you decide to volunteer?

Mary Jane: I like to see things neat and in order. So I enjoy helping with clean up after Bon Appetit’, Roadrunner events and Bingo on Thursday evenings.

RCMHP: Have you enjoyed your volunteer work?

Mary Jane: Yes, I have. I don’t mind picking up things and helping to keep the place neat.

RCMHP: What would you say to get others interested in volunteering?

Mary Jane: I’ve talked to ones about volunteering. But beyond that it’s up to them whether they want to or not.

RCMHP: What do you like to do with your spare time when not busy volunteering?

Mary Jane: I like to play bingo. I go to church every Sunday morning. I won’t gamble or anything on Sunday because that’s God’s day. I also like to go dancing on Saturday nights and I enjoy eating out.

RCMHP: Would you like to add anything else?

Mary Jane: Rincon Country is a nice park.
